Good Books for Kids That Raise the Standard

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

If you’ve been looking at children’s books, you probably noticed that there are tons of them out there, and not all of them offer the kind of values, morals, and standards you want to instill in your kids. That’s a problem with just about every kind of entertainment there is. But don’t despair. There are some that will offer all those things and provide fun, laughter, adventure, and educational content all at the same time.

Introducing: The Orange Chronicles. This set of five wonderful adventures raises the bar for good books for kids. But don’t just take my word for it; read them yourself. Then pass them on to your kids, or read them out loud, and the whole family will have fun learning and laughing together.

The first book, Orange Down Under, is a journey to Australia. Join in the fun and excitement as the two main characters, a pig named Orange and a boy named Jes, fly across the Pacific Ocean all the way to the land down under. Travel with them as they ride on a road train, travel in kangaroos’ pouches, solve a mystery, and learn many amazing and interesting facts about Australian animals, people, and culture.

The second book, Orange in the Land of Lakes and Volcanoes is just as much fun, adventure, and education as the pair of travelers land in…which country? Well, if you don’t know which country is known as the land of lakes and volcanoes you definitely need to read this book and find out.

Don’t miss out. Your search for good books for your kids ends here!

Picasso Was a Founder of Cubism

Richter Gallery of PhotographyCubism is a style of painting where the image “contains many cubes.” There’s not much more to the complexity of cubism that that, however some cubist works were quite complex. The genre was pioneered by picasso and his colleague, Georges Braque, and later joined by Paul Cezanne and Juan Gris among few others. As the style grew more popular and became more favorable, it split into two subcategories, Analytic Cubism and Synthetic Cubism. Where Analytic Cubism focused on planes and angles and creating dimension with the cube (versus the more natural sphere), Synthetic Cubism was more about simplifying shapes into flat rectangular forms, and also signified the introduction of collage and mixed media into fine painting. Cubism took place during 20th century avant-garde art movement, and lasted through its own, “Early,” “High,” and “Late” periods, from about 1906-1921. Cubism was applied to sculpture and writing as well, and is still revered through the 21st Century.
